Yahoo's board of directors will meet today for an update about a deal with Microsoft - but don't expect a deal to be announced after this meeting. Some of the board members have reservations about the deal, including whether it will get past regulators.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, today's meeting follows several phone calls over the past few days, which were organized because talks between the two companies have progressed.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has said repeatedly that he would welcome a search deal with Yahoo. New Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, who has played it cool over the past few months as it relates to a Microsoft deal.

But during the company's earnings call yesterday, Bartz applauded Microsoft's new Bing search engine, saying: "I actually think Bing is a good product. I think they’ve done a good job, but unfortunately they are only a month into it. I think Microsoft should be given kudos for Bing."
