Xerox and Cisco are expanding upon their existing partnership with more new solutions for securing network-connected printers and multi-functional printers (MFPs).

Considering how integrated and important printers and MFPs are within the workplace, they could also be prime threat targets if they're not secured.

Rick Dastin, president of Xerox's Enterprise Business Group, explained in a blog post that most companies overlook this area.

Where does printer security fall on your IT department’s agenda? I’m inclined to guess it’s not on the radar for many, despite the fact that the printers and multifunction printers (MFPs) we use every day have evolved to become as sophisticated as servers – with network connectivity and hard drives – and therefore, prone to security threats.

Dastin admitted that many companies might not have the IT resources to handle these problems. Thus, that is where Xerox and Cisco are hoping they can fill a void.

The new solution being introduced from Xerox and Cisco on Thursday focuses on enhanced protection of confidential data.

Using Cisco's TrustSec solution to identify, monitor and manage devices from a central location, the solution offers IT managers and decision-makers with real-time information and control over all users and devices on a network.
