Yahoo! hits two million mark

The downturn in advertising has meant that subscriber revenue is increasing important to the Web portal
Written by Will Sturgeon, Contributor

Web portal Yahoo! has provided an upbeat start to 2003 with news that it has now signed up two million paying subscribers to its services.

Yahoo! had set the two million subscriber target as a year-end goal and duly met it at the end of December, according to the company's chief executive.

While chief executive Terry Semel, speaking at a Morgan Stanley investment conference, said the figure had been exceeded, no indication was given as to the precise numbers involved.

In the past year Yahoo! has determinedly chased subscription revenues after seeing a continued drop in advertising throughout the dot-com downturn.
