Polycom acquires Accordent, video content management technology

Polycom on Wednesday acquired Accordent Technologies, which provides video content management technology.

While the value of the deal---$50 million in cash---is small, the move highlights how Polycom plans to grow with a mix of acquisition and organic growth.

Polycom said the deal will be neutral to earnings in 2011 and then add to earnings in 2012.

Accordent's technology, which delivers live webcast technology, rich media webcasting and streaming extensions to video conferencing, will be integrated with Polycom's UC Intelligent Core. Accordent is also a partner with Microsoft and will help Polycom better integrate with Lync and Sharepoint.

According to Polycom, Accordent had $9 million in 2010 revenue and more than 1,200 customers.

In other news, Polycom's mobile telepresence software is now being expanded to Motorola's Xoom tablet.
