TouchFire keyboard for Apple iPad improves touch typing experience

The Apple iPad is a valuable tool and can be used for serious productivity. The TouchFire keyboard is a slick overlay that is doing extremely well at Kickstarter.

I previously wrote articles about using external keyboards such as the ZAGG Logitech Keyboard for the iPad 2 and combined with Office-compatible software the Apple iPad can be a productivity machine. A local Seattelite is nearing the end of a Kickstarter campaign with the TouchFire iPad keyboard that looks like something I would use more than any external keyboard.

As you can see on the Kickstarter site (for just another 5 days), the TouchFire keyboard is an overlay that secures to the iPad in landscape orientation and provides a uniquely designed surface that allows you to quickly touch type using the iPad native iOS keyboard. There are clips to even attach the TouchFire to the Apple Smart Cover and you can set it aside when you are not typing in a document. The TouchFire supports the origianl iPad too, as shown in the video on the site.

I may get a chance to meet with Steve this week to see the TouchFire in action, but just based on the information on the Kickstarter site I just ordered the TouchFire Kickstarter Special so I can get a black and white keyboard. Keep in mind that there are only five days left in the Kickstarter campaign and after that if you want a TouchFire you will be placed on a waiting list.
