Asus will be one of the first manufacturers to upgrade its devices to the upcoming Android 'Jelly Bean' 5.0 version, according to a report.

Benson Lin, an Asus corporate vice president, said last week that Asus's close relationship with Android lead Google meant that, "once they have Android 5.0 I think there will be a high possibility that we will be the first wave to offer the Jelly Bean update".

The quote, given to TechRadar, is notable not only for its description of Asus's ties with Google, but also serves as the first confirmation of Jelly Bean as the name for Android 5.0.

Google names its versions of Android in alphabetical order, and with confectionary as the inspiration.

The current flagship version, Android 'Ice Cream Sandwich' 4.0, is still barely found anywhere, despite having been announced in October last year. One ICS handset is on sale — the Galaxy Nexus — and only a handset or two have been upgraded.

Although the Jelly Bean moniker has not even been officially announced by Google yet, there are already rumours about the naming of the Android version after that. According to The Verge, a "reliable source" has the subsequent name pegged as 'Key Lime Pie', or KLP.
