Logitech touts wider angles for video conferencing with new business webcam

Logitech is going for a one-size-fits-all approach, so to speak, with its latest webcam aimed at enterprise customers.

The Newark, Calif.-based company is doing this in two ways: touting well-rounded support for some of the most well-known unified communications platforms as well as greater viewing angles in conferencing rooms themselves.

Sporting a Carl Zeiss-certified glass lens, the Logitech Webcam C930e is boasted to cover the "widest field of view available in a desktop webcam for business."

Logitech specified the C930e is offers an extra-wide 90-degree field of view with pan, tilt, and zoom modes in high definition.

One potential use case, according to Logitech, is being able to capture and display a full whiteboard on an office wall during a brainstorming session.

As for the video conferencing platforms to make this all worth it, the C930e is optimized for Microsoft Lync. Logitech cited that it is also compatible with "most" unified communications and video conferencing apps -- highlighting Skype and Cisco.

Other specs include support for .264 SVC and UVC 1.5 video encoding standards and compatibility with Windows 7, Windows 8 and Mac OS X 10.7 or higher.

Eric Kintz, senior vice president and general manager of Logitech for Business, explained in the announcement that support for these codecs, in particular, are vital because they should guarantee "maximum performance, even when available bandwidth is low or the PC’s processor is heavily burdened."

The Logitech Webcam C930e is scheduled to roll out worldwide this May for $109.99.
