Oracle has revealed a version of its JD Edwards EnterpriseOne enterprise resource planning suite for the iPad, saying it is the first comprehensive enterprise suite for Apple's iOS-based tablet.

At the Oracle OpenWorld conference on Monday, the company said the iPad version of the ERP suite included "application-specific gestures to create intuitive and efficient interactions". Oracle also released a Field Service Work Order iPad app for EnterpriseOne 9.0 customers.

"Customers do not want to develop costly customised applications to meet increased demand for anytime, anywhere access to important business data," Lyle Ekdahl, group vice president and general manager of the JD Edwards division, said in a statement. "By delivering the first complete ERP suite that can run entirely on the iPad, Oracle is enabling… JD Edwards EnterpriseOne customers to access and update business information and insights, regardless of their location."

EnterpriseOne customers on releases 8.12 or 9.0 can get the mobile capabilities by updating to EnterpriseOne Tools Release 8.98.4.5 as part of their standard maintenance package, Oracle said.

Oracle said the iPad version of EnterpriseOne minimised the number of touch interactions required by "presenting the correct touch screen keyboard for specific user data entry tasks".

The mobile suite is tailored for field technicians, the company added, explaining that it gave quick access to manuals, work order documentation and Google Maps.
