Daniel Kusnetzky, a reformed software engineer and product manager, founded Kusnetzky Group LLC in 2006. He is responsible for research, publications, and operations. Mr. Kusnetzky has been involved with information technology since the lat…e 1970s. Mr. Kusnetzky has been responsible for research operations at the 451 Group; corporate and marketing strategy for Open-Xchange; system software and virtualization research at IDC; and program and product management at Digital Equipment Corporation.; Today, Mr. Kusnetzky focuses on system software, virtualization technology and cloud computing. In his spare time, he's also the managing partner of Lux Sonus LLC, an investment firm.

The Kusnetzky Group LLC is an independent technology industry research firm that focuses on system software, virtualization and cloud computing infrastructure. Dan's opinions are based upon research, personal experiences and actual use of technology. They are not based upon the relationships the company may or may not have with suppliers, end user organizations, the media, consultants or other analysts. Dan's research is available on a subscription basis through Kusnetzky Group LLC. Dan's attendance at industry events or at client meetings may be sponsored by the client. Clients may provide hardware or software for testing prior to the publication of analysis that includes that product. Clients may also provide shirts, jackets, coffee cups, folders, backpacks, pens and other event tchotchke. While nice, these don't effect Dan's opinions or insight about those clients or their products.

Rather than presenting a new product or service, the message tried to enlist me in an effort to "try and stimulate open and honest discussions around the future of Virtualization and the current Virtualisation landscape.

Paula Skokowski, VP of Marketing for Accellion, and I had a lovely debate, err, conversation over the need for her company's product, a file transfer "virtualization" product. In the end, she won me over and I was forced through gritted teeth to agree that Accellion's managed file transfer solution could be very useful for medium to large organizations.

Goodbye, OpenOffice.Org. I'm going back to MS Office

For the last three years, I've been using a version of OpenOffice.org on all of my systems. I'm sad to say that I'm going to move back to Office 2007 on Windows XP and Office 2008 on Mac OS X this week. I'm going to continue to use my Linux system for projects, just not for content creation.
