Double-Take for VMware Infrastructure

First launched in February and updated to version 2 in May, Double-Take for VMware Infrastructure is a new entrant to the field of virtual machine (VM) replication tools designed to work specifically with VMware Virtual Infrastructure. Unlike some competitors’ claims about their own products, Double-Take says its software is designed for LAN environments and should not be used with WAN links. The minimum installation requirements are two systems running VMware ESX Server 3.x, plus a third server running a 32-bit version of Windows Server 2003 and the VMware VirtualCenter 2.x management console.

BlackBerry 8820

When we reviewed RIM’s BlackBerry 8800 earlier this year, we noted that it was a device aimed at business users but lacking in two key features — 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. RIM has now dealt with one of those omissions in the new 8820, adding Wi-Fi into the mix.

Vizioncore esxEssentials

Combining comprehensive backup, monitoring and virtual machine (VM) replication tools for VMware’s Virtual Infrastructure 3, Vizioncore esxEssentials provides the main utilities needed to manage VMs in a datacentre environment. Priced at £509 (ex. VAT) with one year's support, or £649 with three years' support, the esxEssentials pack costs less than buying the individual applications separately. The suite was originally launched last summer, and has recently been updated with new versions of esxRanger and esxCharter.

Nokia E90 Communicator

Nokia’s Communicators broke new ground when they first appeared back in 1996. The original clamshell-format Communicator 9000 was extremely popular among mobile professionals, helping to create a market for mobile email devices from the likes of BlackBerry, Palm and Microsoft's Windows Mobile hardware partners. A decade on, the Communicator has to survive in a much more competitive ecosystem.
