E-TEN M600
The M600 from E-TEN builds on an earlier series of Windows Mobile handhelds, the most recent of which, the M500, we looked at back in June of this year. Like its predecessor, the M600 is a connected Pocket PC, available SIM-free. Also like the M500, it is small and bulging with clever software. The M600 also rectifies one of the most annoying issues with the M500 by adding Wi-Fi support. And of course, it runs Microsoft's latest Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system.

Acer TravelMate C202TMi
Convertible Tablet PCs usually have a screen that swivels around a central hinge, allowing you to work in conventional clamshell notebook and tablet modes. However, Acer’s TravelMate C202TMi eschews this system in favour of a unique sliding screen mechanism. It's a clever piece of design, but will it appeal to everyone?

AutoRoute 2006 with GPS locator
With handheld and smartphone-based navigation software sharing the limelight with standalone solutions, it's easy to forget that GPS-based navigation used to be the domain of notebook computers. There are still a number of such solutions available, and Microsoft's AutoRoute is an example. The new 2006 edition comes in two versions: with a GPS receiver for £149.99 (inc. VAT) and software-only for £44.99 (inc. VAT).

Orange SPV C600
Orange’s range of Windows-based smartphones has undergone several iterations since the original SPV -- the first Windows smartphone to hit the UK back in 2002. Orange was a trailblazer in this market, but now has to compete with other operators and with operator-agnostic devices. The SPV C600 follows hot on the heels of the C550 model, which was launched in July. The latter was very much a stopgap, while the SPV C600 is the first Orange handset to feature Windows Mobile 5 for Smartphones.

Samsung X1
Samsung’s notebooks are generally impressive, but the X1 takes things a step further. With its ultra-thin design and fabulous wide-aspect 14in. screen, this sub-2kg notebook is right at the cutting edge in terms of design and portability. It performs creditably and has good battery life, particularly with the optional extended battery, making it an excellent option for mobile professionals seeking a stylish travelling companion with good multimedia features for those off-duty moments.

CiceroPhone for Windows Mobile Pocket PC
The thing about Voice over IP (VoIP) is that once you’ve got it, you really don’t want to use GSM or a landline unless you have to. In offices with IP-based phone systems, VoIP has the added advantage of making people contactable anywhere -- a definite advantage in many circumstances. Handhelds with Wi-Fi and the ability to accommodate SIM cards are ideally placed to offer convenient support for both VoIP and GSM communications, and Cicero Networks has launched a ‘converged softphone’ that provides this via a single user interface. We tested CiceroPhone with an HP iPAQ h6340 -- there is also a Windows Mobile smartphone version, which we will be examining in due course.
