A video chat with Oracle Australia's chief

We get the goss from Oracle Australia and New Zealand chieftain Ian White on the sidelines of the technology giant's gargantuan OpenWorld confab in the United States last week.

If you are thinking of integrating and customising a piece of enterprise software, think again. Oracle Australia and New Zealand chief Ian White tells ZDNet.com.au on the sidelines of the OpenWorld 2009 conference that changing the business to meet the software needs is the better solution.

"I think a lot of people have tried heavily customising applications and have now decided that there's a better way to do it," White said. "We certainly encourage customers to only customise where there's a business case [...] If it makes sense to your business, do it — but otherwise, and most of the time, don't customise."

White also shared his perspective on the local industry and the implications of Oracle's purchase of Sun Microsystems.

Chris Duckett travelled to OpenWorld as a guest of Oracle.
