AMD announces 850MHz Athlon

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE: AMD) on Friday announced its 850MHz Athlon processor for desktop PCs. The chip, the fastest available desktop PC chip, is available immediately in PCs from a number of manufacturers, including Compaq Computer Corp., IBM and Gateway Inc.
