Benjamin Gilbey is Lycos Asia’s new biz dev VP

Benjamin Gilbey has joined Lycos Asia as vice president of Business Development, covering Southeast Asia, Greater China and India.

Benjamin Gilbey 3 May 2001 - Benjamin Gilbey has joined Lycos Asia as vice president of Business Development, covering Southeast Asia, Greater China and India.

Gilbey has more than seven years of senior strategic business development and marketing experience in Asia, the United States, Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Before his appointment, Gilbey was a co-founder of Orientation.com, which owns and operates over 47 country-specific vertical portals supporting multi-lingual features such as search, chat and forums.

Prior to this, Gilbey was Business Development director of The Black Box Limited, a Hong Kong interactive multimedia developer, where he was also majority shareholder and board member from September 1994 until January 1998.

Before joining The Black Box Limited, Gilbey was working at DDB Needham Advertising Agency in Hong Kong, specializing in New Media. He has also worked as technical director for two of UK’s style magazines, “Arena” and “The Face” back in London. Upon graduation from university, he had joined Morgan Grenfel, London as Market Maker for Investment Trusts where his portfolio included specialized technology funds in Europe and Asia.

Gilbey graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the London School of Economics. He also holds a Masters degree from the same university specializing in Economics of Developing Countries, with a primary focus on India and China.
