Big Blue leaves modem software off Linux laptop

Big Blue has beaten rivals to the punch where it comes to a Red Hat laptop. Just don't try using the modem.

IBM may be congratulating itself on the release of the first Red Hat-ready laptop, but according to reports, the Thinkpad 600 ain't all its cracked up to be.

Big Blue released the 600 with one small problem: no Linux software drivers for the internal modem. A company spokesman assures us that Big Blue is working on the problem and denied any suggestions the company was embarrassed by the reports.
