BreakingPoint has now long been a standard for networking and security companies needing to test their network resiliency. Today, the company announced that it has added an additional feature to its BreakingPoint Storm Cyber Tomography Machine (CTM), which adds Facebook emulation to its library of 130-plus applications and more than 4,500 security attacks. These apps and attacks allow the company to accurately measure the performance, security and stability of network environments. The Facebook emulation allows networks to emulate tens of millions of concurrent users on Facebook, and can also emulate activities such as bandwidth-sucking video uploads and time-sucking games such as Farmville.

"Most businesses treat Facebook as merely a website when it comes to measuring the impact on the network," said Dennis Cox, BreakingPoint CTO and co-founder. "In truth, it is a complex ecosystem of application protocols helping to serve up status updates, gaming, chat functionality and much more. The use of Facebook over corporate networks is having an impact on overall network performance and security. Ignoring this potential problem is no longer acceptable."

According to BreakingPoint, with nearly 7 percent of enterprise business traffic going to Facebook, organizations must the resiliency of their networks. This will help these companis determine the direct impact of Facebook on the performance and security of their IT infrastructure. For qualified companies interested in determining whether or not their networks can withstand such high traffic volumes produced by Facebook use, the company is offering a free evaluation of the BreakingPoint Storm CTM.
