The federal department of Trsanportation is NOT yet releasing the data on over 150,000 federally subvsidized auto sales under the cash for clunkers program. And apparently the U.S. Senate will vote to add $2 billion to the DOT's funds for the clunker-mania. Before they see the data already gathered. The House passed the aded funding bill last week. Are folks buying hybrids? Smaller cars? Or simply meeting the law's minimum requirement of about 8 MPG better? Is most of the money going to foreign-owned auto makers, thus likely to incensce economic patriots and anti-globalist sentiments? The cars bought must be "assembled" in the U.S. When will we get the data? Even if the program continues, it will have minimal effect on the country's overall greenhouse gas emissions.
