Citrix eyes wide area networking optimization via CloudBridge

Citrix is merging its Branch Repeater, which delivers PC applications to virtual desktops with CloudBridge, which connects to Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and data centers.

Citrix on Tuesday said that it will expand its CloudBridge line with wide area networking optimization tools.

CloudBridge includes a family of systems designed for mid-range data centers and branch deployments. CloudBridge 2000 and 3000 are shipping today for mid-range data centers along with CloudBridge 600 and 700 are for branch deployments. CloudBridge 4000 and 5000 include wide area networking (WAN) optimization and will ship in the second quarter.

In a nutshell, Citrix is merging its Branch Repeater, which delivers PC applications to virtual desktops with CloudBridge, which connects to Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and data centers.

Citrix, which announced the news at Interop in Las Vegas, is one of many companies looking to have a lineup to bridge existing data centers with public cloud services securely. Citrix is aiming to combine its XenDesktop, XenApp and CloudBridge into one data center bundle.
