Nominet sends out a warning to webmasters...

Domain name registry Nominet is asking holders of dot-uk domains, registered before August 1996, to confirm they still use their URL. Holders must notify their ISP, who will then contact Nominet, allowing the registry to either update the user's details or cancel redundant URLs. Any pre-1996 domain names that remain unclaimed will be withdrawn from service and cancelled if not claimed within three months. About 26,000 domain names were registered before Nominet came into existence in 1996, and consequently are not listed on registry records. Those who confirm they wish to keep their domain name will be issued with a Nominet contract and certificate, but will not pay the registration fee for the first two years of the contract.
