Compaq announces low-cost 600MHz desktop

Latest Celerons roll out in PCs costing around $1000

Compaq Computer Wednesday began taking orders on a new Presario 5700N series desktop, with Intel's latest 600MHz Celeron processor.

The PC will start at $1,049 (£650) with the 600MHz chip, 64MB of RAM, a 10GB hard drive, a 40X-speed CD-ROM drive and a 15-inch monitor. The PC will be available through kiosks at retail stores or directly from Compaq.
