Compaq's ProLiant 5000 range took almost 80 per cent of the server and super server market, according to a report by market research firm IDC.

In addition, Compaq said the fastest model in the line was the first to break the Transaction Processing Council's (TPC) price/performance barrier. The TPC benchmark is widely used by system vendors as an indicator of suitability for dealing with Internet and intra-net traffic.

Compaq can be contacted by telephone on 0990-134456.
