Compaq, IBM map the Internet

Scientists from IBM Corp.'s (ibm) Research unit, Compaq Computer Corp.'s (cpq) Corporate Research Labs and AltaVista Co. have released a “map” of the Internet. The study, which examined more than 600 million pages, determined that four "regions" of the Web account for about 90 percent of all content. The companies said the study will help designers better navigate through the Web. The formal report will be released at the International World Wide Web Conference in Amsterdam later this week. -- Margaret Kane, ZDNet News
