Digital TV set-top boxes grew 28% in 2003

Strategy Analytics reports that sales of digital television set-top boxes will grow worldwide by 28% this year totaling 36 million units. The company anticipates an even stronger year next year for digital TV set-top boxes, with a growth in unit sales of 39% over this year. Strategy notes that satellite digital TV set-top boxes currently represent 61% of unit sales worldwide, but by 2008 cable should prevail with 47% of the digital TV set-top box market. Satellite should follow cable in 2008 with a 37% share with terrestrial set-top boxes claiming 10% of the market.
