Excite joins denial-of-service hit parade

Add Excite.com (Nasdaq: ATHM) to the list of Web sites overwhelmed in the recent denial-of-service attacks. Excite said it was attacked Wednesday evening about 7 p.m. PT, in an assault that lasted about an hour. Traffic to the site was cut by about half. Other sites hit this week included Yahoo!, E*Trade, CNN, eBay and ZDNet. -- Staff, ZDNet News
