Advertising over the Internet totalled $157.4 million for the first nine months of 1996, according to numbers just issued by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and Coopers & Lybrand. The figures include advertising on onlune services, E-mail and newscast services, as well as Web sites.

Although still tiny compared to more established media, Web ad revenues are growing apace, with leaps from $29.9 million to $51.9 million to $75.6 million for the three quarters.

Separately, the IAB said it is supporting standardisation of ad banner sizes, claiming that there are currently about 250 sizes being used.
