Fujitsu ICL first to bundle MS Word 97
UK PC arm Fujitsu ICL Computers has announced a deal to bundle Microsoft Word 97 or Microsoft Works 97 with all its PCs for the corporate, consumer and SME markets.
The deal is the first of its kind in Europe and Fujitsu ICL is hoping to win over any wavering PC buyers with the promise of free software and a reduced-price upgrade to the full Office 97 suite.
The Microsoft bundling deal coincides with the announcement of a new `global' range of Fujitsu ErgoPro desktop PCs to be sold in Europe. Winfried Hoffmann, Fujitsu's Chief Operating Officer said she was hoping the software deal would extend the company's European market share, which in Q3 this year grew by 37.7%, according to IDC.
