Gizmo and LiveJournal: why this is an ideal combination

For the life of me, I've long failed to understand why every single darn social software website and program doesn't have an officially sanctioned IP talk client.

We're so into "well, duh" territory here. Social networks are not only about posting your photo and engaging in forum discussions. They can, if you so choose, lead to voice to voice communication. Maybe I am old fashioned, but hearing someone else's voice- say a fellow Harry Potter fan thousands of miles away- elevates social connunication to a level not possible via exclamation points, emoticons, and even pix.

With just short of 1.9 million active members Live Journal is one of the major such networks. LJ now offers a branded Gizmo Project for LJ Talk. It's a free download for LJ members. Said members will be able to talk to each other for free.

While I am not a social software participant, I actually joined Live Journal to see how the interface looks. Pretty intuitive install and sleek GUI, I must say.

Now, who to call? I can think of an ex who I might like to call via Gizmo Project for LJ Talk, but she's on her third husband right now.

But there are others. Even one or two in my age range...
