Heavy rain knocks out Soho dot-coms

Dot-coms in London's West End are literally having to take a rain check
Written by Graeme Wearden, Contributor

Some of the UK’s top Internet companies could be without phone and Internet connections until next week as heavy rain in the West End and West London Tuesday puts 2,000 phone lines out of action and damages underground cables near Regent Street.

Work to repair the damaged cables began Tuesday evening and will probably take until Saturday to complete according to a BT spokesman.

Elsewhere in London, a contractor drilling at Uxbridge cut through a major BT installation, damaging new fibre-optic connections used to support digital services.
