IBM is to launch a new mid-range Unix server today in a move that will fire up competition with rivals Sun and HP. The p660 will run on eight proprietary IBM chips and will be priced between $100,000 and $1m according to Reuters. IBM's p-series is the latest iteration of the Unix technology it gained when it bought server vendor Sequent in 1999.
