Mobile data caps all round - and stock caps at O2...

O2 has announced it is restricting the iPhone 4 to its existing mobile, broadband or home phone customers at launch - owing to an "extremely limited" stock of the updated Apple mobile.

The iPhone 4 is the latest iteration of Apple's touchscreen smartphone, which comes with an updated OS - iOS 4 - as well as a thinner casing, higher screen resolution and front-facing camera for video calls. The device is released in the UK on Thursday.

"We want to make sure that our existing customers get priority so until at least the end of July, only existing O2 customers will be able to get an iPhone 4 from us," the operator said.

O2, Orange and Vodafone have all released their pay monthly business and consumer tariffs for the iPhone 4, while Orange has also given details for its pay-as-you-go pricing.

O2 iPhone 4 tariffs

Businesses seeking to get an iPhone 4 on O2 will need to sign up for a 24 month contract.

The cheapest pay monthly deal for businesses is £33.51 plus VAT, with a 16GB iPhone costing £100.75 and a data limit of 500MB per month.

The operator also has business plans where there is no upfront cost for the device: both the 16GB and 32GB models are free for business users on the £65 plus VAT monthly tariff, which has a 1GB data limit.

O2 is also offering consumer tariffs, including pay monthly plans of £65 (on an 18 month contract) or £60 (24 month contract), which both come with a free 16GB iPhone 4 and a 1GB data limit.

Cheaper consumer pay-monthly tariffs are also available - the cheapest costs £25 on a 24-month contract, with an upfront cost of £279 for the 16GB iPhone 4. However, the cheaper plans come with smaller data limits: either 750MB or 500MB depending on the tariff.

For data hungry users, O2 is launching monthly data bolt-ons in October - an additional 500MB will cost £5, or another 1GB costs £10. Earlier this month the operator announced it would stop offering 'unlimited' mobile data plans, switching to a data bolt-on strategy instead.

O2 said pay-as-you-go pricing for the iPhone 4 will not be available at launch, but will be "coming soon". It also offers SIM-only iPhone 4 tariffs for consumers have purchased an unlocked iPhone 4.

Orange iPhone 4 tariffs

Orange offers businesses a choice of 18-month or 24-month tariffs for the iPhone 4.

The cheapest business tariff Orange offers is £30 per month plus VAT - offered on both 18 and 24-month contracts, with an iPhone 4 costing between £101.28 plus VAT and £271.49 plus VAT a pop.

There are no plans with a free 32GB iPhone 4 but a 16GB model is offered without any upfront cost on a 24-month contract costing £50 per month plus VAT.

...have 'unlimited' mobile data subject to its 750MB "fair usage" policy. The operator offers tethering bundles starting from £4.26 plus VAT per month.

For consumers, plans start from £30 per month on a 24-month contract, with a 16GB iPhone 4 costing £169.

There's only one Orange tariff for consumers seeking to get a free 16GB iPhone 4: a 24-month contract that costs £75 per month and offers so-called 'unlimited' mobile data, albeit with a "fair usage" policy of 750MB per month.

On pay-as-you-go (PAYG), the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4s cost £480 and £570 respectively from Orange. All its PAYG iPhone 4 plans have a mobile data limit of 250MB per month.

Vodafone iPhone 4 tariffs

Vodafone offers businesses a choice of 18-month or 24-month tariffs for the iPhone 4.

The cheapest business iPhone 4 tariff costs £30 plus VAT per month on a 24-month contract, with an additional cost of £101 plus VAT for the 16GB iPhone 4.

Meanwhile, 16GB iPhone 4s are available for free on 24-month tariffs from £50 plus VAT per month, and 18-month tariffs from £55 per month plus VAT.

All business tariffs offer 1GB of mobile data. In addition, Vodafone offers tethering bundles: £4.25 for 500MB, £8.51 for 1.5GB and £12.77 for 3GB, all plus VAT.

Consumer tariffs too are capped at 1GB of data.

The cheapest Vodafone consumer plan costs £25 per month on a 24-month contract, with a 16 GB iPhone 4 costing £219.

Free 16GB iPhone 4s are available with a 24-month plan costing £60 per month; and on an 18-month plan costing £65 per month.
