iPhone to include international 3G; unlocked workaround
One of the biggest and most underreported features in the new iPhone 3G is international 3G support.The Murata LMRX3JCA-479 tri-band 3G radio will allow this phone to work in places that have only 3G and no GSM – for example Japan.
As my friend Ole points out, "I also think that the increased international coverage (in terms of where you will be able to buy the phone) will mean that soon you could legally buy an unlocked phone, since some countries require phones to be unlocked."
So although it will undoubtedly cost a premium (not to mention the cost of the flight) there should be a way to exploit the "international hole" to obtain an unlocked 3G iPhone.
