In some circles, Juniper Networks' acquisition of Kagoor Networks is being viewed as a "security play."

A spokesperson for BorderWare Technologies sent me an email today, responding to this apparent sentiment.
"The problem," she wrote, is that an SBC (Session Border Controller) is not a security product. An SBC sits between your LAN and the Internet managing traffic, and doing NAT (Network Address Translation) traversal."
She added:
"BorderWare believes that the SBC market would not last long because SBCs are really part of a feature set, and not a product category."
Do you agree or disagree? Post a TalkBack.
BorderWare believes that the SBC market would not last long because SBCs arereally part ofa feature set, and not a product category. As an example, in the email security world an SBC would compare to an MTA (the Message Transfer Agent), which sits between your LAN and the Internet and processes inbound and outbound mail. But a security offering in the VoIP/SIP world needs to deal with more (just like our MXtreme product has done in the email world).
