JVC has introduced the Everio GZ-HM340 to its HD camcorder line, falling in the sub-$500 category (just barely).

While obviously not a professional camcorder, it has some interesting specs, particularly focusing on low-lit situations and image stabilization.

Connectivity and easy-sharing also seemed to be a priority with this video recorder, being that there's one-touch uploading to YouTube, plus facilitated exporting to iTunes and then exported to an iPod or iPhone. Looks like JVC is trying to stay on Apple's good side these days.

Some of the other key features to keep an eye out for include:

  • 1/5.8" 1.37-megapixel CMOS Sensor
  • 20x Optical Zoom
  • Konica Minolta HD lens
  • 16 GB Internal Flash Memory
  • SD/SDHC card slot
  • Time-Lapse and Auto recording modes
  • Special functions: Face Detection, Face Flow Thumbnail
  • The Everio GZ-HM340 will be available later this month with an MSRP set at $499.95. (I told you it was just under the mark.)
