Lanacom joins push shove

Yet another push vendor is squeezing into Europe. Canada-based Lanacom said today it is setting up a UK office to help sales of its Headliner Professional package.

Like other push products such as Pointcast and BackWeb, Headliner presents information by Web-casting Web site data. However, it differs from them in that users can add their own Web sites and be alerted to changes in sites.

Data can be presented as a screensaver, ticker, or even in the title bar of a live application. The Professional version of the product offers hundreds of UK-specific sites as a default, the company claims. Also, rules-based audio, pager or visual alerts can be set to match criteria based on Web page content such as stock price highs and lows, breaking news or special events.

Lanacom quoted research by the Yankee Group which suggested the push market for could be worth $5.7 billion by the year 2000.

Beta versions are available for Windows 95 and NT 4.0 are available at the firm's Web site. The product will ship here in mid-June.

Lanacom can be contacted by telephone on 0181-387 4105.
