Lane to head board at Net marketplace

Ray Lane, the former president of Oracle, was tapped to become chairman of the board of eLance, an online marketplace for Internet services. Lane joins legendary venture capitalist John Doerr on the company's board. Both are partners at venture firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Last month, eLance named Fabio Rosati as its president and chief executive, replacing Eric Roach. Roach remains on the board of the company, which was founded in 1998. Lane was once the heir apparent at Oracle to Larry Ellison but was pushed aside in behind-the-scenes power jockeying. As chairman of eLance, Lane is reunited with Oracle to a small degree--the online marketplace lists Oracle as one of its business affiliates. --Sandeep Junnarkar, Special to ZDNet News
