Lenovo announces plans to enter the netbook market with the S10

The mini notebook (aka netbook) field was kicked off in high gear by Asus last year with the EeePC, but now the field is getting very crowded with the likes of MSI, Acer, Dell, HP, and more. I was pleased to read the news over at jkOnTheRun that Lenovo is also entering the market with their upcoming S10 and S9 IdeaPad netbook devices. One great thing about these Lenovo models is that they look to be priced at the sweet spot of US$399 for the larger S10 and maybe less for the S9. After Asus started things off at less than US$400, other companies started beefing up these mini notebooks to the point where the prices are too high to have an advantage over a full blown notebook, IMHO.

Lenovo makes some outstanding notebook computers and I personally am quite excited about the prospects of their mini notebook devices and one of these may end up in our house this fall with the availability slated for September. My daughters are looking for decent small notebooks and the Lenovo S10 may be the perfect fit at a price under US$500. Specifications include the Intel Atom processor at 1.6GHz, 160GB hard drive, 512MB/1GB RAM options, 10.2 inch LED backlit display (the S9 has an 8.9 inch display), multi-touch pad, 85% sized keyboard, 4-in-1 card reader, and more. S10 prices were announced with US$399 being the price for the 512MB/80GB option and US$449.99 being the price for the 1GB/160GB option.
