HP will today release a secure version of Linux which includes utilities that control secure communications and detect server attacks. HP Secure OS Software for Linux will include a version 2.4 of the OS, as well as open source HP enhancements and software tools including Apache Web Server, US wires report. The product will be available to HP servers or those that pass a Red Hat qualification test that ensures machines can run version 7.1 of its operating system. HP Secure OS Software for Linux will cost around $3,000. The news marks a significant departure for the computer maker, which has traditionally relied on established operating system vendors such as Red Hat and VA Linux for its system software.
