Maxis tests out MediaFLO

Malaysia's leading telco, Maxis, is trying out the MediaFLO technology for mobile TV.

Maxis had also tried out DVB-H, a rival technology, earlier in the year. There's no decision yet on which technology will be adopted.

Both MediaFLO and DVB-H are broadcasting technologies. I have some doubts as to whether consumers actually want TV shows broadcast to their phones.

Mobile TV could very well end up being video clips made specially for the small screen which are downloaded to a PC and then side-loaded into a mobile device.

The jury is still out on what shape or form mobile TV will take, much less the business model. But it's certainly a sector to watch out for the future.
