CBS News' personal blogging policy - CyberJournalist.net - Online News Association - The Weblog Blog:

"We can't have people having personal blogs venting their opinions," Mason explained.

Talk about seriously misunderstanding the use of blogs. If CBS staff were allowed to blog their opinion, the integrity of their journalistic work would be increased, because it would be possible to show that the reporter provided a balanced report when juxtaposed with what they thought personally.

The article linked by "Mason explained," features discussion of the New York Times policy that prevents reporters from ever expressing opinions—primarily because the Times wants to own every word written by its employees, if you read the rationale carefully. A little freedom would go a long way for these organizations.
