The National Australia Bank (NAB) has decided it wants to have a CIO after all, and has appointed its CTO Denis McGee to take on the new-but-old role.
As first reported by iTNews and confirmed by NAB, Denis McGee will retain his existing responsibilities and that it is only a change in title.
The bank's spokesperson said that the title change for McGee was made last week for "internal reasons".
NAB cleaved the. Adam Bennett, who was the CIO at the time, was put into the role of executive general manger of enterprise transformation and was to manage the bank's NextGen IT transformation project. Denis McGee had been NAB's application development manager of IT and was promoted to CTO as part of the changes.
Dissecting the CIO role was said to have been a good decision by IBRS analyst Sue Johnston.
In March, NAB went ahead with an executive reshuffle, resulting in Gavin Slater, who had previously looked after the NextGen project, moved to head up personal banking, taking over from Lisa Gray. Gray was subsequently moved into Slater's old position.
The NAB spokesperson stressed that leaders within the bank's technology department haven't changed. Bennett and McGee will both still report to Gray.
