National Geographic has compiled every issue of their spectacular magazine from 1888 to 2008 and loaded them to a 160 GB hard drive, available for purchase now.

Priced at $199.95, that includes 120 years of coverage on a 3" x 5" hard drive, which connects to a Mac or PC via USB.

Apparently the content (magazine issues, maps, photos, trivia games, etc.) only takes up a third or so of the drive, because NG says there's 100 GB partitioned for personal use. For that kind of content and all the extra HDD space, I think it's a great product, and it's a concept that other magazines should consider if they want some additional (or any) revenue.

Even though it missed the holiday shopping season, this might be one of the coolest gifts ever. In fact, I don't know if I'd give it to anyone and rather just keep it for myself.
