NEC toasts Scotland chip investment

NEC Semiconductors has poured £530m into a wafer fabrication plant at its site in Livingston, Scotland in an attempt to meet increased demand for semiconductors in Europe.

This investment will be followed by a further £200m in the near future to enable the facility to "produce chips of even higher technology," said NEC president Dr. Hisashi Kaneko at the opening of the new factory.

NEC is currently the second largest overseas investor in the UK behind Nissan.
