Internet giant AOL says it has installed a patch that should put an end to the Instant Messenger hacking scam revealed Tuesday.

US AOL spokesman Richard D'Amato, tells ZDNet Wednesday: "At this point we have installed a patch that we expect to shut down this scam."

D'Amato also says the scam involved the Instant Messenger "registration process" and so individual users of Instant Messenger do not need to install a patch or update their application.
