News Burst: Cahoot cancels debit cards

Another blunder in the world of online banking
Written by Wendy McAuliffe, Contributor

Abbey National's Internet bank Cahoot has cancelled all of its debit cards following complaints that customers were unable to use them to get cashback at supermarkets or to purchase goods in some shops.

Cahoot is recalling all of its existing cards, which will become invalid on 30 September, and will be issuing new ones over the next couple of weeks.

The online bank, which suffered computer failures on its launch day in June, claims it was aware of the problem from the start, and is tracing the blame back to Visa where the cards originated.
