News Burst: Current tech redundant before m-commerce begins
Report warns that companies are investing millions in short-term technologies, and consumers risk buying a dud device
The speed at which wireless technologies are changing means that today's cutting edge mobile devices may soon be redundant, according to a report from market researcher Gartner Group.
Investment in intermediate technologies such as WAP and GPRS to promote m-commerce, could be a waste of time according to Gartner which warns that such technologies will soon be superseded, leaving consumers with redundant devices.
The research firm says that the mobile commerce sector will not show rapid changes until 2005.
