Only 24% of mobile phone buyers surveyed by The NPD Group said buying a mobile phone from a carrier-owned story was an "excellent or good experience." Carriers dominate wireless retail sales, accounting for 68% of all phone purchases. The majority of consumers were repeat phone buyers, with only 14% saying they were buying their first handset. 39% were upgrading to better phones, while 15% were replacing a broken one.
