Text messaging, also know as short message service (SMS), is used by over one-third of US mobile phone users - about 38 million people. SMS is popular with all income levels, but age makes a difference, as 57% of mobile phone users ages 18 to 25 engage in text messaging.

For example in the UK, over three-fourths of mobile users use SMS.
