Oracle has announced its intention to acquire Sydney-based eServGlobal's Universal Service Platform (USP) technology for prepaid telecommunications billing.

Under the deal, Oracle will acquire eServGlobal's multitude of USP prepaid telecommunications billing software, including ChargingMax, MessageMax, NumberMax, uVOMs, UMS and Social Relationship Manager. Oracle plans to merge its communications billing system with the bought software to form a single IT-based prepaid billing system for telecommunications companies.

"This will enable our customers to deliver traditional prepaid voice services and easily introduce hybrid prepaid and post-paid plans with targeted pricing, promotions and service bundles that include voice, data and network services," Liam Maxwell, Oracle Communication's vice president of products said in a statement.

eServGlobal will continue to operate after the acquisition of the technology but will now focus on the development, support and customisation mobile money services, according to the company.

The sale is expected to be finalised later this year and is worth up to $113.4 million.
