Digital camera-focused and other tech blogs are running wild with news about the Sony Alpha A290.
It is known that Sony has plans to announce a new entry-level digital SLR camera soon (that title currently belongs to the A230). But now photos and specs of the A290 have popped up, and they seem pretty realistic.
According to tinhte, Sony Vietnam has already come clean on the upcoming Alpha A290. There are some notable upgrades from the A230 to the A290, including a boost from the 10.2-megapixel CCD to 14-megapixel APS-C image sensor. The BIONZ image processor stays on too.
Here's what is known now about the Sony Alpha A290:
- Kit includes 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM lens
- 2.7-inch LCD screen
- Maximum ISO: Up to 3200
- Maximum shooting speed: 2.5fps
- SteadyShot image stabilization
- MemoryStick Pro Duo and SD/SDHC memory card slots
Even though this isn't an official announcement, there is a note about pricing, specifying 9,990,000 VND ($529.47) for the kit. A little more than what the A230 costs in the US now, but for an entry-level camera, that's about right. Hopefully we'll be seeing something concrete from Sony about a US release soon.
