Proporta's Alu-Leather Nokia N800 provides good protection and functionality

I thoroughly enjoy using the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet and think the form factor is perfect for the intended purposes. With two SD card slots providing you with lots of opportunities for storage capacity, you can also use your N800 as a video playing device. In the past my wrists have gotten tired holding up my PSP on the plane to watch movies so I was looking for a solution for the N800 to prop it up and protect it (although it does have a good integrated stand as well). I also wanted to somehow protect that large beautiful display while traveling and commuting. Proporta released an accessory that seemed to meet these desires with their Proporta Nokia N800 Series Alu-Leather Case so they sent along a review sample to try out.

The Alu-Leather case is a sleek black leather with high quality stitching and construction holding it together. Inside the top leather flap is a slab of rigid, lightweight aircraft grade aluminum to completely protect the display in closed mode. There are also four soft round foam circles mounted on each corner of the top flap for added protection of the N800 face. A leather flap secures the device in the case magnetically so it stay protected in your gear bag.

This top flap folds back and then rests flat on a surface. A "kickstand" piece of leather secures to the back of the bottom piece with velcro and then you pull this out and rest it in grooves (found opposite of the aluminum lined top flap) to provide you with a propped up N800 that is perfect for airline seat tray movie viewing. There are 7 grooves to control the angle at which the N800 rests in the case.

You simply slide the Nokia N800 up into the case between the very rigid black plastic brackets (C-Clips) and rest the top against the top bracket. You still have full access to the stylus, power port, headphone jack, digital camera, and top row of buttons while the N800 is in the case. I only take it out of the case to swap expansion cards or connect it via USB to my computer.

The Proporta Alu-Leather case feels great in your hand and is very solid. There is a Proporta logo on the top flap up to the left of the grooves. The case is available now from Proporta for US$34.95 and if you are looking for a way to protect your N800 I don't think you can go wrong with this solution.
